Stage 6 Preview: One Last Climb Before the Finale

Tuesday 8 & Wednesday 9 September

The inaugural SISU Punainen is entering its decisive moments.

With just two stages remaining, Stage 6 takes riders onto Watopia's demanding Mountain 8 route, where the fight for every jersey reaches fever pitch. Time is running out for riders hoping to claw back seconds in the General Classification, while the battles for the Sprintteri and Vuorikauris (Mountain Goat) jerseys remain far from settled.

The stage features one sprint and one of Zwift's most feared climbs:

  • Sprint Segment: Sprint Forward

  • KQOM Segment: Radio Tower Forward

The Sprint Forward segment offers one final opportunity for the fast riders to strengthen their claim on the Sprintteri Jersey before attention turns skyward. Then comes the infamous Radio Tower—a brutally steep climb that has broken countless riders over the years. With gradients reaching well into double digits, it is the perfect place for climbers to make their move and for General Classification contenders to launch one final attack before the tour finale.

Route Preview

Mountain 8 combines fast roads with one of the most iconic and feared climbs in Watopia. The opening kilometres provide an opportunity to settle into the race and contest the sprint before the route turns towards the Epic KOM and, ultimately, the savage Radio Tower ascent.

The Radio Tower climb is short but relentless. There is little opportunity to recover as the gradient repeatedly bites into tired legs. Riders who pace the climb well will be rewarded, while those who go too hard too early may find themselves crawling to the summit.

By Stage 6, accumulated fatigue becomes just as important as fitness. The strongest riders won't simply be those with the highest power—they'll be those who have managed their energy throughout the tour.

Coaching Tips

  • Choose your priority. If you're targeting the Sprintteri Jersey, be ready to contest the early sprint before settling into a climbing rhythm. If you're chasing the Vuorikauris Jersey or General Classification, don't waste unnecessary energy before the mountains.

  • Position before the climb. Enter the Epic KOM and Radio Tower near the front of the group. It's much easier to hold a wheel than chase one.

  • Ride within yourself. The steep gradients tempt riders to attack too early. Find a sustainable rhythm and resist the urge to follow every acceleration.

  • Use your gears wisely. Smooth cadence becomes increasingly important as the road steepens. Avoid grinding a gear that's too big.

  • Never stop fighting. The summit isn't the finish. Stay focused all the way to the line, as valuable seconds can still be won or lost.

What to Watch

Stage 6 could prove to be the decisive day of the inaugural SISU Punainen. The Radio Tower has the potential to create significant time gaps, making it the perfect launchpad for riders chasing the Punainen Jersey. The Vuorikauris Jersey contenders also face one of the tour's most valuable climbing opportunities, while the sprint specialists have one last chance to strengthen their position before the final stage.

Will the rider in red withstand the pressure? Can the mountain goats seize control? Or will the Radio Tower rewrite the story of the inaugural Punainen?

One last mountain. One last chance to attack before the finale.

Let's go racing!
