SISU Punainen 2026 - Stage 1 Preview
Saturday 22 & Sunday 23 August
The inaugural SISU Punainen begins as riders from around the world chase the dream of becoming the first rider to wear the coveted Punainen Jersey. Inspired by the Vuelta a España, the newest SISU Racing Grand Tour opens with an Individual Time Trial on Watopia's iconic Hilly Route - a stage where every second counts and every rider races alone against the clock.
An Individual Time Trial is often called the race of truth. There are no wheels to draft, no teammates to protect you, and no tactical games to play. Success comes down to pacing, preparation and the ability to produce your best effort from the start ramp to the finish line.
The Hilly Route is the perfect opening test. Although relatively short, it demands sustained power and smart pacing. Riders will tackle the famous Hilly KOM before a fast descent and rolling run back to the finish. Push too hard in the opening kilometres and you'll pay for it on the climb. Ride too conservatively and precious seconds will disappear.
The inaugural SISU Punainen features four individual jersey competitions, giving riders of all strengths and ages something to chase. The coveted Punainen Jersey is awarded to the overall General Classification leader based on cumulative elapsed time across all seven stages. The Sprintteri Jersey rewards the fastest riders through the the sprint segments, while the Vuorikauris (Mountain Goat) Jersey celebrates the strongest climbers across the tour's KOM/QOM segments. In addition, the Johtaja Jersey (leader in Finnish) is awarded to the leading rider in each age category, recognising outstanding performances across every generation of racers. While the Punainen and Johtaja jerseys are in play from Stage 1, the Sprintteri and Vuorikauris competitions begin from Stage 2 with the tour's first sprint and climbing segments.
SISU Racing is once again proud to host both an Open Punainen Tour and a dedicated Women's Punainen Tour, continuing our commitment to creating more opportunities for women in cycling esports. Two events. Two red jerseys. One unforgettable Grand Tour.
Coaching Tips
Warm up properly. A quality 20–30 minute warm-up with a few short efforts will prepare your legs for a maximal time trial.
Pace, don't chase. Ride just below your limit in the opening minutes before lifting your effort over the Hilly KOM.
Carry your speed. Use the descent to recover briefly while maintaining momentum into the rolling finish.
Leave nothing behind. Once you crest the climb, empty the tank all the way to the finish line.
What to Watch
History will be made this weekend as the first leaders of the inaugural SISU Punainen are crowned. While the margins may only be measured in seconds, those seconds could prove invaluable over the seven-stage tour.
